Fall Fashion Preview


If you're planning ahead to your fall sewing, you may be interested in what designers and fabric manufacturers are predicting for the coming season. Everyone seems to agree that knits will continue to be of primary importance, especially when blended with Lycra for shape retention.

Prints will continue to be strong, but expect to see many new additions to the florals of the past years. Look for geometrics, medieval and hunting motifs, border prints, and paisleys to be prominently featured. Designers are telling us that the most important print will be the stripe, especially when used in sailor looks. The stripe will also be strong in menswear-inspired fashions.

Crepe is a favorite fabric, whether in wool, rayon, silk or cotton.

Color combinations are almost as important as individual colors. A few of the main trends:

Expect to see lots of new color names, many with environmental overtones: Dresden blue, toadstool, stone, pebble, wood bark, red aster, orange mum, Chinese red, Hawaiian tiger lily, New Zealand kiwi, peach blossom, lavender mist, and winter pear.
