Dear Fashion Revue Participant
Dear 2008 State 4-H Fashion Revue Participant:
Congratulations on being selected to participate at the State 4-H Fashion Revue at University Park, August 6, 2008. Enclosed is the tentative schedule that you will follow for the event. You will be very busy during your stay at Penn State. You will compete with 59 other top clothing and textiles members and participate in a professional fashion revue for nearly 1,000 invited guests. You can help yourself "get ready" for this opportunity by reviewing the schedule carefully and heeding the following guidelines:
- You must be prompt. Arrive at the Eisenhower Auditorium at 7:30 a.m. sharp. Allow time for breakfast, walking, and poor weather. If you are driving up for the day, there is no parking close to the auditorium, so plan to come early and obtain a parking sticker at a kiosk. Also, make sure you make arrangements for meals (except lunch), lodging, and transportation with your extension agent. Conference registration needs a completed health form, too. These should be mailed in advance of the July 5 state deadline. The fashion revue committee and participants are the only ones allowed in the Eisenhower Auditorium during the day, and are the only ones allowed in the dressing room at any time.
- Because we have 60 participants to judge and a full practice schedule, you will be judged for only 3 1/2 minutes. It is unfortunate to have limited time, especially with the work involved in your garment, but the fashion revue committee weighed the need to include more 4-H members in our program with our time constraints. We want you to know this so you'll make full use of your time. Also, do not prepare a speech. Answer only questions asked by the judges.
This is how it will work: Judges will get an overall look at your garment during a "walk through." Then you will have a three-minute judging session to look at presentation, fashion, design, fit, and construction (as it relates to outside appearance only). (The judges may, however, ask you to straighten a sleeve or belt, or lift a hem a little.) Start modeling as soon as you enter.
- You are responsible for all your belongings. Label everything with your name and address. Have everything with you before you leave home and the dorm. (Close the bottom of your garment bag to prevent something sliding off of a hanger.) If you forget a slip, shoes, or other items, you will have to model without them! Once you arrive at the auditorium, you will be there all day. No one is allowed to leave without the permission of the fashion revue committee chair.
The auditorium will be open for your convenience between 7:15 and 7:45 p.m. only, (stage door) the night before the revue to store your garment. Do not bring garments in early! After 8:00 p.m., garments will be locked securely for the night. If you are late, bring the garments the next day. You may also want to bring comfortable shoes to wear while waiting during the dress rehearsal and a sweater, because we can't control the air conditioning, and an umbrella in case of rain.
- Because of fire regulations in the auditorium, please keep your area of the dressing room clean and unplug electrical appliances. Electrical appliances found to be plugged in will be confiscated because of the fire danger. Keep your personal items together. Label everything with your name and address!
- Family and friends are welcome to view the state 4-H fashion revue during the evening but are NOT allowed to be with you during the day or in the dressing rooms at any time. Visitors will disqualify you or your award, so be sure to tell them! Be sure you are able to dress yourself.
- Your personal data sheet must be given to the regional 4-H fashion revue chair at your regional revue. This sheet must be clearly and completely filled out and the photograph and fabric swatches stapled to the form. The chair must see that your form arrives no later than 5:00 p.m., July 10, 2008 to qualify. Bonus points will be given for forms that are accurate, complete, and on-time. These points make a difference if your score is on the border-line! Any revue forms with narrations over the 100 words, that are late, or missing important information, will have points deducted on your score sheet.
- Also, please bring a hand-held mirror, a cardigan sweater, and some comfortable shoes.
Please note that the committee may revise your narration, if needed, to comply with the theme and the evening production. You will have an opportunity to listen to your narration and practice modeling at the final review. If you find you have sent in a narration that is over 100 words, contact us immediately.
We hope that your participation in the State Fashion Revue program will be fun, as well as a meaningful experience. Your agent will give you a schedule of fashion revue events.
Sincerely,
Jan Scholl
