Introduction to 4-H Bread Baking Lessons

Bread Making Project

This project was designed to encourage young people to bake bread often and in
a variety of ways, to promote better nutrition and better management of time,
energy and resources.

The purpose is to:

	* Increase skills in selecting, preparing and storing bread
        products.

	* Discover that bread making can be quick and easy to prepare;
adaptable to the time available and the occasion, and is a
        creative outlet.

	* Increase knowledge of shopping skills by recognizing the
importance of checking labels for nutritional analysis and
unit pricing, baking instructions, recipe variations and
        expiration date.

	* Increase knowledge and appreciation of history, customs,
seasonal holidays and practices of people in other lands and
        cultures.

	* Improve scientific knowledge and practice safety in the kitchen.

	* Improve decision making, hand-eye coordination, and creativity.

	* Analyze the value of convenience in modern life.

This project was written and reviewed on the PENpages electronic system in the
hopes of gaining new information from young people and their adult leaders to
improve the 4-H bread program in Pennsylvania. The following are copies of
the electronic documents as they appeared on the system:
